My Approach

  • Growth

As a passionate life-long learner, I position my clinical work from a place of not knowing, key to any psychodynamic work. My goal is to grow and transform with you, starting from a place of respectful curiosity using my skills of active listening, asking open-ended questions, and engaging in therapeutic conversations to open up new possibilities. Growth and change in this way are approached with intention through building a strong therapeutic alliance.

  • Multiplicity

Incorporating the tenets of narrative therapy into all my clinical work, I believe that "we are multi-desired, as multi-motivated, and as multi-intentioned in life as our lives are multi-storied" (White, 1997). In my work, I challenge the normative attitude of living a single truth. I see identity as always changing and in flux as we adapt to our dynamic environment and circumstances. The idea of multiplicity - the ability to hold space for multiple realities at once - is critical to developing healthy and sustainable relationships.

  • Compassion

Cultivating compassion is central to how I approach my work - both for understanding the self as well as understanding others. Compassion is the precursor to repairing sharp breaks and misunderstandings in relationships. Compassion also allows us to feel and think with kindness even when things are tough. It sets the foundation for increased insight and self-awareness that anchors on empathy, not shame.

  • Connection

Connection is about care. It may be impossible to connect if a person feels unseen and unheard in their life. Often, someone who experiences feeling unseen and unheard participates in patterns of avoidance in order to not feel. Cultivating connection can look like living with intention, setting boundaries, increased tolerance to cope with difficult situations, and creating a balance between prioritizing your needs while maintaining interpersonal relationships.
