About Me

I am a registered social worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), and I received my Master of Social Work degree from York University. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D in social work. I have over 10 years of experience working in academic, clinical, and community settings on issues of children and youth mental health, parenting and family conflicts, social injustice and its impact on immigrants’ settlement in Canada, and issues of multiculturalism and immigrant belonging. I have academic publications focusing on areas of anti-oppressive education/practice, and the mental and emotional aftermath for young persons in a post-pandemic world. I have presented my research in various spaces such as non-profit community agencies, academic conferences, and for Master of Social Work students.

I have completed specialized training in a variety of therapeutic frameworks including postmodern narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), motivational interviewing, family systems, trauma-informed and strength based therapies. We can collaborate to find the approach that allows you to best express yourself and your needs. I value the importance of interaction, connection, understanding cultural contexts and the roles that social constructions of meaning play in people's lives.

All my clinical practices are informed by a feminist, de-colonial, anti-oppressive and anti-racist politics, which means I think through the multiple and often intersecting injustices that are felt upon the body and become internalized. I also hold the complexity I bring to this land as a settler of colour in both my clinical and academic work. I understand traditional psychodynamic therapies as being implicated in imbalanced power dynamics that have been used to marginalize, neglect, and silence. With the goal to bring your life experiences to the forefront, I will collaboratively and dynamically work with you to challenge traditional power roles and identity categories.
